The Arab Cinema Center revealed the nominations for the Critics’ Awards for Arab Films in its eighth edition, which competes for Arab films that were produced or witnessed their international premieres in 2023. This edition witnesses the addition of a new category to the awards, which is the Best Short Film Award.
A jury consisting of 209 critics from 72 countries participates in evaluating the films, who watch the films via the digital partner Festival Scope, and the award winners are scheduled to be announced at a ceremony held during the next session of the Cannes Film Festival.
“The eighth edition of the Critics’ Awards for Arab Films reflects the great success achieved by Arab cinema in international forums throughout the year 2023, through the various award classifications that express the superiority of Arab films in the various cinematic forms of feature films, short films, novels, and documentaries.” Deborah Yang, Director of the Critics’ Awards, commented. “I feel happy, proud, and very excited about the final results of the jury.” She added.
“2023 is certainly a special year for Arab cinema, as it recorded a strong presence in the largest international festivals throughout the year, and won many awards in various competitions and sections, which makes us happy to announce the nominations for the edition of the eighth Critics’ Awards for Arab Films, which is considered the strongest edition of the awards so far. We would like to thank the members of the jury and greatly appreciate the great effort they made this year.” Maher Diab and Alaa Karkouti, co-founders of the Arab Cinema Center, said.
