US Special Envoy Tom Perriello has confirmed that external parties are interfering in the conflict and exacerbating the war, indicating that ending the war in Sudan is an urgent necessity.
He said during a briefing he gave to the US Congress on Wednesday that the Rapid Support militia (RSF) had practiced ethnic cleansing in Sudan.
The American envoy encouraged members of Congress to visit camps for displaced people in the country to determine the extent of civilian suffering.
Periello said that Washington has a commitment from the UAE and the African Union to participate in the next round of negotiations, stressing that the beginning of the new negotiations will be in the coming weeks with the participation of Arab and African leaders, and Periello expected a better end to the next round of negotiations.
Perriello added that the Sudanese people believe that the future should not be between two warring groups. He continued, “The parties to the conflict must realize that the world is watching them and will hold them accountable for their violations.”
The American envoy stressed the integration of RSF into the army in the future, and said that everyone in Sudan wants a professional army that operates within a government framework.
He added that the crisis in Gaza diverted attention from monitoring the Sudan war.
Perriello called for building a comprehensive coalition to end the war in Sudan.
Regarding developments in the situation in Darfur, he said that living in the city of El Fasher is not safe at all, and he said that with the fall of El Fasher, we will see a new level of suffering for the Sudanese.
