Demands to Declare Economic Emergency

Economist Dr. Haitham Mohamed Fathi has demanded the Ministry of Finance, to develop solutions to overcome the Sudanese currency crisis and its collapse against foreign currencies by controlling the production and export of gold while declaring a state of economic emergency. He said in a statement to Sudan Events, “Under the economic emergency, there will be control over gold and oversight of its production, as was the case in the past with strict control over oil production.” He added, “There must be interest in safe areas and there must be an increase in the production of other minerals with the development of oil fields and protection.” It also improves the opportunities for transporting southern oil by improving and modifying the tariff for transporting southern oil, controlling Sudanese imports in a way that does not prejudice Sudanese imports, and reducing government spending “other than the war effort.” He said, “Priorities in government spending must be arranged and directed by the economic staff of the banks operating in Sudan to finance all production.” “With flexible and fair banking products that preserve the rights of the bank and depositors and contribute to production and lifting citizens out of the cycle of poverty and destitution.” He added, “There must be control over the amount of liquidity present in Sudan,” referring to some reports that confirm fraud in the 1,000 and 500 pound bills. He said, “There must be controlling and combating counterfeiting Sudanese currencies.
