The management of the Alexandria Film Festival for Mediterranean Countries, headed by film critic Prince Abaza, announced the selection of Lebanese screenwriter, director and producer Sam Lahoud as director of the Documentary and Short Film Competition for Mediterranean Countries in the 40th session of the festival, which is scheduled to be held during the period from 1 to 5 October 2024.
Sam Lahoud is the founder and president of the Beirut Film Society, a prominent figure in the film and theater industry in Lebanon.
He has an extensive background as a screenwriter, director, producer, script consultant and lecturer in film, theater and media.
He began his career in 1994, and since then he has written, directed and produced plays, feature films and documentaries that have received great recognition and awards both nationally and internationally.
His most prominent cinematic works include “Void,” which Lebanon nominated for an Oscar in 2015, “Good Morning” in 2018, and “C-Section,” which was shortlisted for the 2020 HFPA Golden Globes.
He founded a number of film festivals, such as the Beirut International Women’s Film Festival, the Beirut International Short Film Festival, and the Lebanese Film Festival in Canada.
Lahoud was listed for three years in the Arab Cinema Center magazine as one of the 101 golden figures in Arab cinema.
He has organized and presented masterclasses, seminars, panel discussions and training, both nationally and internationally, on responsible media, media literacy, media law and ethics, storytelling, screenwriting, producing and directing.
He is currently pursuing his doctoral studies in media at Saint Joseph University. He holds a master’s degree in media and a master’s degree in screenwriting. He previously served as the founding director of the Communication Office at Notre Dame University, head of the Department of Media Studies, and founder and head of the Department of Audiovisual Arts.
