Despite Militia’s Atrocitie… European Union Uses Double Standards
Sudan Events – Aya Ibrahim
The European Union has insisted on equality between the Sudanese Armed Forces and the Rapid Support Militia (RSF since its rebellion against the army in April of last year, despite the clear violations and horrific atrocities committed by the militia in areas under its control, unlike the army, whose areas of control have remained a place of security and safety for the Sudanese citizen, and this has been made clear. After the return of a number of families to the city of Omdurman following the victories achieved by the Sudanese Armed Forces and the defeat of the rebellion in a number of areas.
Rejecting equating
In its latest statement last week, the European Union accused the Sudanese Armed Forces of indiscriminately bombing the city of El Fasher, the capital of North Darfur State, which was rejected by the Sudanese Foreign Ministry, which it considered to be equality between the army and the militia.
The Foreign Ministry said in its statement that the European Union was unable to name those attacking the city of El Fasher and targeting civilians and displaced persons camps, and that the “militia” itself had repeatedly announced its plans to attack the city and prevent the arrival of humanitarian aid, and carried out this without being met with the condemnation it deserved from the European Union.
Policy tools
The researcher in strategic sciences and international relations, Dr. Hassan Shayeb Dangas, says that the European Union’s equating of the Sudanese Armed Forces with the rebel terrorist Rapid Support militia is not strange due to the division of the world into two camps, the eastern and the western, the eastern camp led by Russia.
It includes all countries that reject subordination and the Western camp led by the United States of America, and includes the European Union and its allied countries.
In an interview with Sudan Events Dingus believes that the European Union is one of the foreign policy tools of the United States of America under the system of global hegemony that it took control of after the fall of the Soviet Union. He said that the Sudanese Foreign Ministry’s rejection of the statement is natural because it affects national sovereignty and international law calls for respecting the sovereignty of states, but it is The policy of double standards from Western countries. Therefore, it is necessary to adopt a foreign policy for the Sudanese state that criminalizes the rebel terrorist Rapid Support militia and exposes it to the international community by submitting documents and files on the ethnic cleansing it practiced in Darfur and forced displacement, in addition to the violations that are inconsistent with human rights, such as the crimes of rape, looting, and theft that it carried out. It even affected the headquarters of international organizations operating in Sudan.
Commercial interests
The Sudanese Foreign Ministry regretted that the European Union did not demand that the militia stop its aggression against El Fasher, and said that instead the European Union involved the armed forces defending the city and its people in the condemnation, and pointed out that the commercial interests that link some European Union countries with the “militia sponsors” are restraining it from Condemning it and pressure it to stop igniting the fire of war in Sudan.
Passive role
In turn, the Political Secretary of the Future Movement for Reform and Development, Hisham Al-Shawani, believes that the European parties have played a negative role for a long time and directly caused the war through the role of the Quartet and through the UN mission project, which was a European project par excellence. After the outbreak of the war, it continued its hostility to the Sudanese state by adopting a narrative. Both sides of the conflict equate the state institution, the national army, with a militia.
Al-Shawani told (Sudan Events): There are many motives and interests behind the European position and a renewed colonial memory towards Sudan. We do not forget that there is old European support for the Rapid Support Militia in what was known as the Khartoum Process, which was designed to prevent illegal immigration. The Western vision was launched by supporting the Rapid Support Militia. The rapid response will contribute to stopping migration, especially since the Emirati regime has strong ties to the British and Europeans. He added, “The European Union, with its position, is part of the crisis and not part of the solution, and I can say with confidence that they are a party that is deeply hostile to Sudan.”
Similar penalties
The Sudanese Foreign Ministry faults the European Union for not taking the correct moral position that would enable it to contribute to stopping the war and to give advice to others about humanitarian values and international humanitarian law. The European Union had previously imposed sanctions on 3 entities affiliated with the Sudanese army, including the “Zadna” company, which is the largest company closely linked to the military establishment, and equated the move with similar sanctions on the Rapid Support Militia, which included the “Al-Junaid” company, which works in extracting and mining gold and contributes to obtaining funds to continue the war.
