British Secretary of State: The Militia is Committing Crimes Against Humanity in Darfur

British Foreign Minister David Cameron has called on the Rapid Support Militia (RSF) to stop its siege of El Fasher, and called on both sides to calm down immediately, adding that both sides must fully fulfill the commitments made in the Jeddah Declaration, including allowing unimpeded and safe humanitarian access, In addition to compliance with its obligations under international law.
Cameron said in a tweet on the “X” platform that the warring parties in Sudan must stop the escalation, adding, “the villages surrounding El Fasher were burned and hospitals were destroyed, resulting in the deaths of hundreds in acts of violence.”
Cameron said that the violence in the Darfur region of Sudan is “horrific” and “both sides must stop the escalation immediately.”
He added that more than 800,000 civilians “have no means of escape.”
He noted that some acts of violence may be ethnically motivated and “may rise to the level of crimes against humanity.”
Noting that “attacks against the Masalit, Fur, Zaghawa and other non-Arab communities by the RSF and their allied militias are already taking place around El Fasher.”
He said that stopping this falls within the powers of the warring parties.
