Veteran tennis player Rafael Nadal brings down the curtain on a 19-year career on the courts of Roland Garros. The Spaniard, who has won 22 Grand Slam titles, won his first title with Roland Garros when he was 19 years old in 2005. Nadal, formerly ranked number one in the world and who has fallen to 276th place now, has fallen victim to injuries in recent years, and has played only 15 matches. Since January of last year, he suffered a thigh injury, then a muscle tear as part of a frustrating history of physical problems that forced him to miss 12 major tournaments. Tennis fans are waiting for the French Open draw to be drawn on Thursday, to find out whether Nadal will participate in the competitions or raise the number of tournaments. His absence from major tournaments has reached 13. Nadal said after his exit in the second round in Rome last week: “I will play the tournament thinking that I can give everything I have 100%,” while Nadal’s coach Carlos Moya confirmed during the last edition of the Madrid tournament: “We have to enjoy the time he still has on the field, evaluating him, and realize that something like this is unlikely to happen again. Personally, I’m never on the field when he comes on or leaves, but I do it this year because I love seeing the sympathy he gets from the fans when he steps onto the court and he’s one of the great stars in this sport, and he’s about to retire, and it’s really amazing to see that.” Carlos said.
