The African Center for Justice and Peace Studies said that it documented 125 cases of rape in the states of North, South and West Darfur, some of which resulted in pregnancies, and soldiers from the Rapid Support militia were accused of committing them.
The center said, in a report according to “Sudan Tribune,” that it “documented 81 cases of sexual violence attacks in North Darfur state, during the period from April 15, 2023, to last March 27, most of them in Al-Fasher, Kutum, and Tawila locality.”
The Center pointed out that the most affected cases were committed against displaced women who fled from Nyala, the capital of South Darfur state, to North Darfur, where their ages range from 12 to 40 years.
The center regrets that only 22 victims out of 81 girls and women who were subjected to rape received medical assistance, due to a lack of supplies in the few functioning facilities.
The report spoke of at least 20 cases of rape, in the neighborhoods east of El Fasher city under the control of Rapid Support (RSF), such as Tadamon, Nakhil, and Al-Jabal.
An eyewitness told the center that he saw three masked gunmen, wearing RSF uniforms, raping a 16-year-old girl, who ended up pregnant due to not receiving medical assistance, only to face stigma from society and then attempt suicide.
He pointed out that an attempt was made to save the girl by taking her to the Southern Hospital, but she died due to the doctors’ strike that day.
The report stated that 32 girls and women were subjected to sexual abuse by the RSF in Tawila locality, before they withdrew from it after three days of clashes.
The Repprt stated that when the RSF and allied militias attacked the army base in Kutum, many violations were committed, including the rape of at least 29 girls and women.
The African Center for Justice and Peace Studies said that, during the period from June 26 to August 4, 2023, it documented at least 30 cases of sexual violence against girls and women in El Geneina, West Darfur state.
The Center explained that 11 girls were sexually abused on June 26, 2023 by RSF soldiers, while fleeing from Al Jamarek, Al Tadamon and Al Thawra neighborhood in the city of El Geneina.
The Center reported from eyewitnesses that several girls were raped, including one who was 14 years old. It also documented the rape of a woman at gunpoint in front of a man, all from the city of El Geneina, in the hands of the RSF.
The report documented that 14 women and girls were raped in the city of Nyala, the capital of South Darfur state, including 6 who became pregnant due to their lack of access to medical care, three of whom underwent abortions.
The center says, citing a reliable source, that the number of rape victims who underwent abortions in the city of Nyala is higher than what was reported due to stigma.
