Chamber of Commerce member Muawiyah Aba Yazid has criticized the Ministry of Trade’s decision regarding the controls for issuing the exporter’s and importer’s registry certificate
He said that the timing is not appropriate, especially since the merchants are suffering (semi-bankruptcy) as a result of the war that broke out since the fifteenth of April last year and is still raging. He added in his interview with Sudan Events that the merchants do not have any money to pay for the new registers and that the decision is wrong and he said that the Minister of Trade should address the issues of looted and burned goods. Abayazid requested the President of the Sovereign Council, Lt. Gen. Al-Burhan, the official in charge of the economic file, Lt. Gen. Ibrahim Jaber, and the Minister of Cabinet Affairs , called for the abolition of the Ministry of Trade and its liquidation, because the Ministry of Trade, Cooperation, and Supply constitutes a burden on the state, as there is currently no supply and all cooperatives in Sudan are inactive, but there is no international trade agreements now other than COMESA. He said that the commercial registry for exporters and importers must be extracted from the commercial registry, provided that the commercial registry is the affiliate the Ministry of Justice, and import and export controls are carried out by the Ministry of Finance, and its money is deposited in banks. He said that the Ministry of Trade has become obstructive to commercial work and has no role.
The Minister of Trade and Supply had issued new controls for issuing the exporter’s and importer’s registry certificate. The new controls canceled all previous numbers of commercial registries (about 33 thousand registers).
This work will begin in January 2024, No. (1), and this includes new and renewal of records with the aim of creating a new database. The new decision of the Minister of Trade was approved for one year instead of two years for the validity of the commercial register. The decision established a set of controls for issuing the exporter’s and importer’s register certificate for companies and other controls of: extracting an exporter’s and importer’s register certificate for business names, controls for extracting an exporter’s and importer’s register certificate for investment, controls for extracting an exporter’s and importer’s register certificate for business names owned by companies, and controls for extracting a register of public joint-stock companies from banks, the army, and the public sector.
