The European Union envoy to the Horn of Africa, Annette Weber, has announced that the Union is currently working on preparing another package of sanctions related to the war against Sudan.
She indicated that the sanctions would affect individuals, this time, after imposing sanctions on some parties to the conflict last year.
Weber said, quoting Asharq Al-Awsat, that 24% of the population in Sudan has entered the stage of famine. She warned that the country would slide into the Syrian or Somali scenario if the talks were not resumed.
The European Union envoy to the Horn of Africa, Annette Weber, considered that the “Jeddah Platform” is the main platform for all efforts.
Weber called for a return to the talks, and acknowledged that there were external parties working to provide weapons support, but she was reserved about giving more details.
According to Weber, the situation in Sudan has worsened over the past weeks, and destruction has spread throughout the country.
She continued: “There is destruction. We are talking about two million refugees, and eight million were displaced from their areas.”
She added: “There is no access to aid, including Khartoum. The situation is terrifying in Sudan.”
