Al-Rashid Ahmed Issa: We must leave a homeland for our grandchildren to sing about

The head of the Dramatists Syndicate, Al-Rashid Ahmed Issa, said in a blog post on his Facebook page that singing, poetry, drama, criticism and philosophy are not what stop the war, “The artist and philosopher confront reality and have no direct impact on it, while the politician and his mob manage the general part of reality using surreal fantasies. They believe in it…hence their great sincerity that enables them to utter nonsense with serious faces. Do we, who lived through their war, forget their insistence every day that our side, whatever our side, will be victorious, because the truth is with us. It is the fantasy of villains and heroes. It is the fantasy of melodrama. Victory always goes to the heroes.” He added.
“This is exactly what is happening to us. We are fighting a war led by rabble politicians whose imaginations and sick souls are leading the nation to its destruction and ruin. They are deceiving people that victory is coming and death is continuing for the innocent. Therefore, we artists must change our means in this war. Singing, poetry, drama, and criticism. Philosophy is not what stops this war. It only works in the dream world of an ideal life that we hope to live. We must not be dreamers more than that. Our people are perishing and our country is slipping away from our hands and dreams. We must leave a homeland for our grandchildren to sing about.” He added.
