Official statement about the shooting incident before the Netherlands and Poland meeting

The police in the German city of Hamburg issued an official statement, on Sunday, regarding the shooting of a man who threatened fans of the European Nations Cup, “Euro 2024”, before the match between the Netherlands and Poland in Group D. German police shot a man who was carrying an ax and threatened a group of football fans, in the streets, and the incident occurred on Reeperbahn Street in Hamburg, where Dutch fans were walking towards the stadium for their country’s match against Poland, and about 40,000 Dutch fans were meeting, and a man appeared carrying an ax and began attacking fans and officials. Warning shots were fired first, before being shot by the police.
“In St. Pauli, there is currently a large police operation. According to preliminary findings, a person threatened police officers with an ax and an incendiary device. The police then used their firearms. The attacker was injured and is currently receiving medical treatment.” Hamburg police said in a statement.
