Doctors Without Borders announced that 260 people have been killed and more than 1,630 injured in El Fasher, North Darfur, since fighting began about 6 weeks ago.
The organization added in a statement on Sunday on the “X” platform: “Nine days after the Security Council (SC )called for an end to fighting in El Fasher, Sudan, fighting is still ongoing.”
Doctors Without Borders warned of continued attacks on hospitals and the inability of any external aid to reach the city due to the severity of the violence.
It said, “More than 260 people have been killed and more than 1,630 others have been injured since fighting began six weeks ago, including women and children.”
The statement explained, “On Friday, the Rapid Support Forces RSF shelled the pharmacy of the Saudi hospital supported by MSF in El Fasher, killing a pharmacist while she was working and damaging the building.”
“In El Fasher, we are witnessing a series of attacks and counter-attacks that do not spare hospitals, without the warring parties assuming their responsibilities to protect civilians,” the organization quoted the organization’s head of emergency operations, Michel Lacharité, as saying. “We do not know if hospitals are being deliberately targeted, but their protection remains an absolute necessity and must be respected.
Civilians are trapped and cannot leave, and they must be protected and their ability to receive treatment must be guaranteed,” he added.
