Ethiopian militias penetrate into Al-Fashaqa

Sudan Events – Agencies

Military sources said on Monday that armed Ethiopian militias penetrated 15 kilometers deep into Sudanese territory, with increasing looting and assault activities on farmers and shepherds in the Al-Fashaqa border area.
According to military sources according to “Sudan Tribune”, the new Ethiopian militia attacks were monitored in the Tayah area in Al-Quraisha locality on the border strip in Gedaref State, eastern Sudan.
The sources explained that the Ethiopian militias cut off the road in front of the movement of Sudanese shepherds in the area, and assassinated one of them by shooting him, while four other shepherds escaped. They also indicated that hundreds of heads of cattle were looted and taken into Ethiopian territory.
Abdullah Ahmed, a livestock owner in Al-Quraisha locality, revealed in a statement to Sudan Tribune that Ethiopian militias have appeared in large numbers since June along the border strip villages, and have carried out several operations to loot livestock, farmers and charcoal traders, in an attempt to prevent Sudanese farmers from cultivating their agricultural lands with the onset of rains.
Abdullah Ahmed indicated that he was subjected to looting operations by armed Ethiopian militias supported by the authorities of the Amhara region.
He said that these militias looted 140 heads of sheep at gunpoint last week in the “Shai Beit” area, one of the Ethiopian settlements inside Sudanese territory, where Amhara nationalist forces and militias are stationed to support Ethiopian farmers in cultivating Sudanese lands.
Abdullah warned against targeting the militias and blocking the road for farmers and shepherds in the absence of military and security services and the lack of adequate protection. He added that the spread and penetration of Ethiopian militias has led to delays in cultivating agricultural lands along the border strip.
