Afrah… absence in a year of sadness
Sudan Events – Magda Hassan
Although the artist, Afrah Essam, continued to find media spaces where she could appear, she was met with (artistic) laziness, as she is one of the few productive artists, and it is enough that she was absent during this period without appearing with her own work.
Afrah’s last work that she remembers was a duet between her and Al-Jazzar, entitled “The Heart You Sold.” She faced a widespread campaign of criticism at the time, describing it as an attempt to appear on the shoulders of Al-Jazzar, who was rising in the sky of stardom. However, the much criticism regarding Afrah, or according to her understanding, is an indication of influence, and she said in Previous conversations: For her, criticism has stages, and each stage has its goals. For example, there are those who criticize her at the level of form and appearance, and there are those who criticize her as an artist.
A number of critics believe that Afrah Essam’s experience was based more on form than on singing, especially when she entered the advertising market through the “Tuna” advertisement, something that continued to bother her, and which she continued to reject, since, according to her previous statements, form had brought her a number of offers in the field of acting. “I submitted to many offers, but I rejected them because I do not have the talent for acting.” She added. “I am not at fault if God created me beautiful, and I am not at fault if people criticize my appearance more than my singing.” She continued.
Although an artist’s success is measured by his artistic production, Afrah continued to defend her experience, pointing out that the success of one song for any artist is quite enough, and that artists have twenty years in the field and do not have any special successful song.
Since her graduation from the Stars of Tomorrow program, the young artist Afrah Essam has occupied artistic councils, between supporters of her experience and opponents who did not see anything beautiful in that experience. In return, she received the lion’s share of appearances on specialized artistic pages, preceded by many news and rumours. She reserved a seat on the famous program “Songs and Songs” on the Blue Nile Channel, and the late Sir Qaddour called them the joys of the people, but the joys are absent these days and they do not share the people’s sorrows.
