US Ambassador to the United Nations, UN Linda Thomas Greenfield, affirmed that the humanitarian situation in Sudan is the worst in the World.
Greenfield said, in a statement carried by the US State Department, that the “Integrated Food Security Phase Classification” report on Sudan contained a warning and firm phrases.
According to the statement, “After a year of senseless fighting that destroyed agricultural production and market systems, displaced and displaced ten million people, and obstructed humanitarian operations, Sudan today faces the worst levels of acute food insecurity ever.”
Greenfield said, “Famine is not looming, but every element indicates that it dominates the country.”
She continued, “If the warring parties do not respect international humanitarian law and facilitate humanitarian access, the UN Security Council must take action to ensure the delivery and distribution of life-saving aid and use all available tools to achieve this purpose, including allowing the passage of aid from neighboring countries.”
“The Sudanese people urgently need an immediate end of fighting and unhindered humanitarian access,” the statement said.
