“Birwaz”… a picture frame for the better
Sudan Events – Agencies
Funded by the Women for Justice Foundation, Barwaz works to improve the image of women. “Birwaz” is the photo frame that we love to hang in our homes. But not all pictures are realistic in their content. These pictures capture what we want to see or what we like to see, and it does not matter if it is real or not.
The “Birwaz” project is intended to enable women with and without disabilities to communicate their voices and opinions regarding emerging stereotypes that need to be reconsidered, through three stages:
The first is a storytelling workshop: in cooperation with Murtajil Company, it will discuss stories, anecdotes, and personal experiences that the participants have lived as a result of society’s stereotypical image of women, which negatively affects their lives, their actions, and the definition of their role and relationship with their family members and family. We will take the participants’ stories and write a short film script with them. Then, a movement performance workshop: With Sherine Hegazy, the participants will be trained in a simple dance performance inspired by the scenario resulting from the participants’ stories in the storytelling workshop.
And filming a short film for the participants as a product of the storytelling workshop and the motor performance workshop. The workshops are free, attendance and commitment to the project activities are required, and no previous experience in storytelling or movement performance workshops is required. Personal interviews will also be conducted at the Murtajil company’s headquarters in the center of the country. Accepted students will be contacted personally one week before the start of the storytelling workshop.
It is noteworthy that the project is implemented by Obelisk Performing Arts Company, in cooperation with Murtajil Company for training and consulting in theater arts.
