Britain Allocates £2 million to support Sudanese Refugees in Libya

Sudan Events – Follow-ups

British International Development Secretary Anneliese Dodds pledged to provide financial support worth two million pounds to provide life-saving assistance to up to (150,000) Sudanese refugees fleeing violence in Darfur.
The Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office stated that more than two million people fled Sudan following the war that broke out in April last year, including more than (1,200) people entering Libya daily across the border.
The support is part of the British government’s commitment to working with international partners to address the humanitarian crises that force people to flee their homes, and to enhance support provided to refugees in areas close to their country.
Quoting the British Foreign Office website, this funding, along with support from international partners, contributes to providing priority assistance, including emergency healthcare, water, hygiene and sanitation supplies, and child protection services for approximately 150,000 people who have taken shelter in eastern Libya, along with host communities.
Britain will allocate the £2 million support package to the humanitarian response in the Kufra region in Libya, where, according to UN estimates, there are currently approximately 45,000 refugees in dire need of assistance.
International Development Secretary Anneliese Dodds said, “The United Kingdom Uk is committed to providing life-saving assistance to the world’s most vulnerable people, including children, fleeing violence in war-torn Sudan.”
She added, “This support in Libya, alongside our international partners, will provide much-needed services, including water, emergency healthcare, hygiene and sanitation supplies, to these refugees.”
