The Coordination Council of National Umma Party called for an immediate cessation of the war, affirming that its continuation threatens the lives of millions of Sudanese with killing and starvation, and called on the two parties to the war to assume responsibility and engage in the Geneva talks seriously and build on Jeddah Agreement to put an end to the suffering of the Sudanese people.
In a statement on Wednesday, after a meeting held on Tuesday evening in Cairo, the council called on the United Nations UN to make every effort to reach a truce agreement between the two parties that would open the way for delivering humanitarian aid and protecting civilians.
It also called on UN agencies to take urgent measures to save the agricultural season.
According to the statement, the meeting discussed the catastrophic humanitarian situation in the country and the increasing scope of the war and its extension to agricultural areas, which has exacerbated living conditions and the economic crisis in light of the looming threat of a devastating famine.
