Sudan Events – Follow-ups
Sudan Liberation Movement ( SLM) led by Minni Arko Minawi, announced its rejection of the US State Department’s move to bypass it in inviting participation in Geneva negotiations between the armed forces SAF and the Rapid Support RSF Militia.
The movement’s official spokesman, Al-Sadig Ali Al-Nour, said in a statement on Saturday, “We have been following in the Sudan Liberation Army Movement ( SLAM) the moves made by the US State Department and its distribution of invitations to the parties that it wants to participate in Geneva meeting on August 14, namely the Sudanese army and the Rapid Support RSF Militia, and since we in the joint force are considered one of the main participating parties, and even influential in the war, we were surprised by this deliberate exclusion by the US State Department.”
The statement considered the movement’s exclusion to be completely unacceptable, and expected that Geneva negotiations would not lead to anything in the absence of known parties present in the heart of the battles and who have made all possible sacrifices, thousands of martyrs and wounded missing.
The statement called on the US State Department to extend an invitation to the joint force so that the invitation would include all parties to the war, adding, “Otherwise, Geneva negotiations will be an exercise in protocols that are of no use and will add to the number of initiatives that have been proposed and will present a new failure,” indicating that the seriousness in stopping the war lies in hearing the opinions of all parties participating in it.
