Sudan Events – Follow-ups
At least (23) people were killed and dozens were injured on Saturday in a shelling by the Rapid Support Forces RSF that targeted populated neighborhoods in El Fasher, the capital of North Darfur state.
Ground clashes resumed at a more violent pace between the joint force affiliated with the armed movements and the Rapid Support Forces RSF in the southern part of the city after a hiatus that lasted for weeks.
Coordination of the Resistance Committees of El Fasher reported in a statement that “the initial information on the victims due to the deliberate shelling by Janjaweed militia reached 23 dead and about 60 injured.”
In the same context, a field commander in the joint force told “Sudan Tribune” that “their advanced defenses in Souq al-Salam and Bashariya in southern El Fasher destroyed a huge movement of the Rapid Support Forces RSF that it had mobilized from all areas of the Darfur region in an attempt to penetrate deep into El Fasher.”
He added that their forces inflicted heavy losses on the attacking groups in lives and military vehicles, in addition to capturing a number of soldiers.
Eyewitnesses told Sudan Tribune that a large force of Rapid Support Forces RSF arrived from the areas of Nyala, Al-Daien, Zalingei, Kabkabiya, and Saraf Omra and attacked the sites of the army SAF , the joint force, and the popular resistance in the southern direction since the early hours of Saturday morning, using all types of heavy weapons, including drones, in a battle that lasted more than seven hours.
The witnesses indicated that the Rapid Support Forces RSF fired large numbers of artillery shells towards the northern, western, and southern neighborhoods and near the command of the Sixth Infantry Division, causing massive destruction to citizens’ homes.
The shells also destroyed a health center in the “Tambasi” neighborhood, south of Al-Fasher.
