Washington Envoy: No Future for Militias in Sudan

Sudan Events – Follow-ups

The US Special Envoy to Sudan, Tom Perriello, said on Sunday that his country is putting more pressure on the parties that are fueling the war and that it is playing a neutral role in trying to bring the two parties together to end the war.

He saw that there is no future for the Rapid Support RSF Militia in Sudan, noting that with the participation of the army they ended the civilian transition in the country.

Perriello said in an interview with the “Enlightenment” program on the X platform presented by the media figure Saad Al-Kabli, when we ask the SAF to allow the passage of humanitarian aid, it is because it represents a recognized military institution, and we do not expect the same from the Rapid Support RSF.

He pointed out that the Sudanese army SAF and the Rapid Support RSF have a different history, noting that the latter committed crimes of genocide and ethnic persecution in Darfur.

Regarding his country’s attitude on Jeddah platform, and whether Geneva platform will be an alternative to it, Perriello said that the Jeddah Declaration must be implemented by both parties, noting that they did not implement the agreement.

He continued, “As for the army, it did not commit to protecting civilians and allowing the passage of humanitarian aid.

As for the Rapid Support Forces RSG they did not abide by their pledges to leave homes and civilian institutions,” affirming their continued pressure to implement Jeddah Agreement.
