US Special Envoy to Sudan Tom Perriello said that while America is preparing for urgent ceasefire talks in Sudan next week in Switzerland, we are holding final meetings in Jeddah hosted by the Saudi government to end months of consultations with the parties to the conflict, regional partners and technical experts.
He added in a tweet on his account on the X platform: “More importantly, tens of thousands of Sudanese have contacted us demanding an end to this war and famine.”
In the context, the US envoy said that the call for Geneva negotiations must include a high-ranking person with the ability to make decisions from the two delegations, “the Sudanese army SAF and the Rapid Support RSF Militia,” so that we can reach results.
He pointed out that Geneva negotiations do not grant legitimacy to either party to the conflict.
He said in an interview with “Alhurra Channel” from Jeddah that many countries in the region have expressed their desire to stop the war in Sudan because they have been harmed by it.
