$135 Million Financing from the Islamic Development Bank for Upper Atbara Dam

The Islamic Development Bank has provided financing for the Upper Atbara Dam Complex project in eastern Sudan, with the total funding amounting to $135 million, aimed at supporting essential water and energy infrastructure in eastern Sudan.
The bank, headquartered in Makkah, stated in a release that the Upper Atbara Dam Complex project is a sustainable revolution in water and energy resources. The project will manage 6.3 billion cubic meters of water and generate 320 megawatts of renewable energy at the “Rumaila” power station. It will also provide clean water to eastern Sudan and the targeted area.
According to a statement published by the Saudi Press Agency (SPA), the project sets a new standard for sustainable development. It aims to enhance sustainable economic growth, address the infrastructure needs in water and energy resources, expand access to renewable energy and safe drinking water, and promote sustainable development in the eastern Sudan region.
