Sudan Events – Follow-ups

Save the Children announced on Thursday that its staff receives nine unaccompanied children daily in displacement camps in the Blue Nile region and Gedaref State. Mary Leupold, Director of Humanitarian Affairs for Save the Children in Sudan, said in a statement, “Our staff receives nine unaccompanied children daily in displacement camps in Blue Nile and Gedaref.” She added, “During my visit to a displacement camp in Gedaref, I saw children who had endured terrifying journeys arriving at our reception centers, completely exhausted, with many showing signs of malnutrition.” Mary emphasized that children separated from their families are at much higher risk of violence, abuse, and exploitation, including human trafficking, recruitment into armed groups, and sexual violence.
