West Ham United players Tomáš Souček and Jarrod Bowen crowned their goals during a 2-0 win over Crystal Palace in the English Premier League on Saturday by rescuing a young ball boy from significant danger during the celebrations of the first goal.
Czech midfielder Souček opened the scoring in the 67th minute of a tense match against Palace, prompting the visiting fans to celebrate wildly with the players.
However, their excitement caused an advertising board to fall and slide forward, trapping the ball boy who was holding the ball in front of it.
Souček noticed the danger the boy was in and immediately halted his goal celebration to lift the board, allowing the frightened child to escape. Bowen, who was with Souček, then pulled the boy from between his teammate’s legs, ensuring he was safely out from under the board.
West Ham captain Bowen said, “I managed to pull him out as quickly as possible; it was an instinctive move to save him.”
The 27-year-old English winger scored another goal five minutes later and gave his shirt to the boy after the final whistle.
