WHO: 28 Cholera Deaths in Sudan, 658 Infections Reported

WHO representative in Sudan, Dr. Shebel Sohbani, reported in a press conference with UN agencies in Geneva that 658 cases of cholera have been reported since the latest outbreak on August 12, with 28 deaths recorded.

 The WHO warned in its latest report on the situation in Sudan that at least 12 of the 18 states in Sudan are now facing three or more outbreaks of cholera, malaria, measles, and dengue fever.

 The organization stated that local resources and capacities to detect and respond to disease outbreaks remain limited, particularly in hard-to-reach areas like the Darfur and Kordofan states.

 It was reported that the initial vaccination campaign successfully protected over 50,000 people from cholera, with 51,000 doses already in the country being used, and hundreds of thousands more doses on the way.
