Upcoming Visit of Al-Burhan to China
Sudan Events – Reports
Chairman of the Sovereign Council, General Abdel Fattah al-Burhan, will lead the Sudanese delegation participating in the China-Africa Cooperation Forum Summit, which will be held in Beijing from September 2nd to 6th. Al-Burhan is expected to address the summit.
Acting Foreign Minister Ambassador Hussein Awad stated, according to the Sudan News Agency, that Al-Burhan’s participation represents an opportunity to discuss Sudan’s issues with the Chinese leadership and focus on activating China’s role in the post-war period, given the strong relations between the two countries. It will also be a chance to discuss all matters of interest to Sudan with participating leaders and heads of delegations.
He added that after the opening session, the meetings would be divided into four simultaneous forums, including the Belt and Road Initiative, agricultural modernization, good governance, and the fourth forum focusing on security and peace.
Al-Burhan is also scheduled to hold talks with the Chinese President on the sidelines of the summit. Additionally, he will meet several African leaders and oversee the Businessmen’s Conference on September 6th, which will see the participation of a number of Sudanese businessmen. The summit will be preceded by a senior officials’ meeting on September 2nd, followed by a foreign ministers’ meeting on September 3rd, where the Beijing Declaration and the Beijing Action Plan will be discussed before being presented to the summit for approval.
It is worth noting that Al-Burhan’s participation came following an invitation from the Chinese President and the Senegalese President, who is the co-chair of the forum.
