North Kordofan: Distribution of Seeds Positively Impacted Agricultural Operations
Sudan Events – Follow-ups
Acting Minister of Production and Economic Resources in North Kordofan, Ibrahim Hamed, confirmed that the distribution of seeds to small farmers in various localities has positively impacted agricultural operations. The cultivation of millet, peanuts, corn, and sesame has reached the growth stages, according to farmers’ reports.
The minister added, according to the Sudan News Agency, that the state had prepared early for this year’s agricultural season by drafting a plan targeting 7 million acres distributed across the state’s localities according to the comparative advantage of each locality.
He noted the coordination with several partners and food security organizations, holding a series of meetings to ensure the success of the agricultural season. He also mentioned the formation of a high-level state committee to monitor the season and address obstacles to the agricultural process.
He added that the state managed to provide some agricultural inputs, especially seeds, with partners’ support. He said that another batch of seeds is expected to arrive soon, noting that preparations are underway for the initial agricultural survey of the 2024 season to assess the cultivated crops and the size of the planted areas.
