United Nations: Funding for Sudanese Response Plan is Depleting
Sudan Events – Reports
The United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs in Sudan (OCHA) said on Saturday that the resources for funding the humanitarian response plan are depleting, even as aid continues to flow through the Adre corridor.
In a statement, OCHA said, “Despite progress at the Adre corridor, funding resources are running out, and there is an urgent need for humanitarian funding to support the supply chain.”
The statement noted that 59 trucks carrying medical supplies, nutrition, emergency shelter, and essential household items for 195,000 people crossed from Chad to Darfur via Adre between August 20 and 30.
It also reported that 128 more trucks carrying aid for 355,000 people are being prepared to cross into Sudan in the coming days and weeks to ensure a steady flow of supplies.
OCHA noted that this year’s humanitarian response plan is only 41% funded, with the plan requiring $2.7 billion.
The office mentioned that 150 humanitarian partners are racing against time to prevent famine from spreading.
It added, “There is an urgent need for funding to purchase more supplies to enable humanitarian workers to carry out a large-scale operation to prevent and respond to famine.”
