Investigation Begins with Kassala Intelligence Elements in the Case of Young Man Al-Amin Nour
Sudan Events – Follow-ups
A youth group announced on Sunday that the Public Prosecution has begun investigating members of the General Intelligence Service accused of killing the young man Al-Amin Mohamed Nour under torture in a detention center in Kassala.
The incident has sparked a wave of condemnation and protest, with demonstrators besieging the headquarters of the Public Prosecution and the Intelligence Service, closing the city’s market and some of its roads.
The youth group from Beni Amer and Habab tribes stated in a statement that “the Public Prosecution has initiated preliminary investigations with the five accused of killing the young man Al-Amin Mohamed Nour, including an officer and four individuals of different ranks.”
The statement noted that the group attended a meeting of the Kassala State Security Committee, chaired by Governor Major General (Ret.) Al-Sadiq Mohamed Azraq, which concluded with the handover of the accused to the Public Prosecution to start legal proceedings, with an emphasis on preventing the recurrence of such crimes in the future.
The group announced that they lifted the barriers they had placed on public roads to allow the law to take its course after the handover of the accused to the Public Prosecution, and they also announced the funeral of the deceased on Monday morning, inviting the community to participate.
The group pledged to follow up on the case until the accused are brought to trial, reiterating their demand for the dismissal of the Director of the General Intelligence Service in Kassala State for his responsibility.
