Five People Killed, Dozens Injured by Floods in a Darfur IDP Camp
Sudan Events – Reports
Five people were killed, and more than 30 others were injured on Tuesday due to heavy rains and floods that swept through two overcrowded camps for displaced persons in North Darfur State.
Human rights activist Mudathir Hussein Mustafa, according to “Sudan Tribune,” stated that “five deaths and over 30 injuries were recorded due to the collapse of homes in Kassab and Fata Borno camps in Kutum locality, North Darfur State.”
He pointed out that large parts of Kutum locality have witnessed heavy rainfall since last August until early September, causing severe floods and torrential rains that destroyed many homes, farms, and public facilities. He noted that the rainwater also flooded farms and cut off roads, exacerbating the suffering of the citizens.
