Calls for Salva Kiir to Intervene in Recovering Stolen Artifacts from Sudan National Museum

Sudan Events – Agencies
Approximately 200 Sudanese researchers have submitted a memorandum to the President of South Sudan, Salva Kiir Mayardit, urging him to help recover valuable artifacts stolen from the Sudan National Museum in Khartoum and smuggled to South Sudan for sale.
A report from Saudi Arabia’s “Al-Iqtisad” news website indicated that the Center for Sudanese Culture, History, and Civilization Research reached out to President Kiir to assist in returning the museum’s treasures that were moved and displayed in South Sudan.
The letter, signed by over 200 professors and researchers, appealed to President Kiir, his government, and the people of South Sudan to track down the looters who smuggled the artifacts into South Sudan, based on satellite tracking of the trucks used.
The researchers emphasized the historical significance of the stolen items, noting that they are not only Sudanese heritage but also an invaluable human legacy dating back over 7,000 years. They urged international laws and conventions to preserve and protect these items.
