Member of the Sovereign Council, Assistant to the Commander-in-Chief, Naval Engineer and Consultant Ibrahim Jaber, praised the role of the World Health Organization (WHO) office in Sudan in cooperation with health institutions in supporting the country’s health sector.
On Saturday, Jaber met with the Director-General of the WHO, Tedros Adhanom, during his official two-day visit to Sudan. Jaber welcomed Adhanom’s visit and praised his exceptional efforts in managing the organization. He highlighted the deteriorating health situation in Sudan due to the ongoing war, which has negatively impacted the health sector. He emphasized that Sudan is looking for support from the WHO, in line with the extent of the damage caused by the rebel militia to the health sector, based on the international community’s ethical duty represented by the WHO.
The meeting also discussed Sudan’s need for a comprehensive vaccination campaign to combat the epidemics caused by the floods that have affected large parts of the country.
Jaber also reviewed Sudan’s efforts to facilitate the delivery of humanitarian aid and ensure its flow to those in need. The Sudanese government has taken steps to ease the passage of relief and humanitarian assistance, including health aid for those affected by the war.
