The Rapid Support Forces (RSF) militia tightened its grip around the “Zamzam” camp, located south of El Fasher, the capital of North Darfur, after deploying its forces at a crossing used by traders to transport food, medicine, and fuel to the camp, which is facing an unprecedented humanitarian crisis.
Speaking to Sudan Tribune, the spokesperson for the displaced people in “Zamzam” camp, Mohammed Khamees Doda, said: “The RSF detained dozens of traders on Tuesday who risk their lives to bring goods to Zamzam camp to help alleviate the humanitarian crisis. The militia confiscated the goods and detained the traders at an unknown location.”
He explained that the forces spread out at the southern checkpoint, which supplies the camp from the Dar Al-Salam area, accusing them of looting shops, citizens’ money, and confiscating satellite internet devices (Starlink), in addition to humiliatingly assaulting the area’s mayor and arresting several notables.
He warned that Dar Al-Salam remains the only remaining entry point for supplies to the camp, expressing serious concerns that if fuel trucks are intercepted, water sources and grain mills may come to a halt.
Doda called for urgent international and regional intervention to open roads to the camp before a humanitarian catastrophe threatening millions unfolds.
He accused the RSF of adopting a siege and starvation tactic against the residents of El Fasher and noted that random looting of citizens’ homes and public facilities had forced large numbers of El Fasher residents to seek refuge in Zamzam, where they face unprecedented humanitarian conditions.
