The new High Commissioner for Refugees, Filippo Grandi, warned that the situation in Sudan is “desperate” and that the international community “does not need this,” calling in particular for the provision of aid to displaced people trying to flee the country at war.
“This extraordinary emergency – the human rights crisis, the humanitarian needs crisis – we do not have anyone in our international community” who holds other jobs, from Ukraine to Gaza, the governor said in an interview with Agence France-Presse.
He explained that since the war began in Sudan between the Sudanese army and the Rapid Support Forces militia in April 2023, “more than 10 million people have been displaced from their homes,” including more than a million Sudanese who have sought refuge in other countries. But what is worrying” for the university official is that “people are starting to move beyond the immediate neighborhood into the distant space area to help in a farther place.”
The High Commissioner warned that “unfortunately, this technology has started to affect the region in a very dangerous way” and Grandi said “we only have a few information about what is happening inside” El Fasher.
Because the High Commissioner regrettably believes that the international community did not identify the news of Sudan with sufficient attention, even before the outbreak of the war in Gaza.
