Sudan Events – Follow-ups
Ibrahim Mustafa, the Governor of the Gezira Project, announced ongoing efforts to secure fuel and wheat seeds for farmers in preparation for the winter wheat planting season. This came during a meeting on Tuesday, chaired by the Deputy Director of the Agricultural Department for the Managil sections at 24 Al-Qurashi, Yasser Abdeljalil Naqd. The meeting included Managil section managers, irrigation managers for East and West Managil, irrigation department managers, IT engineer Tawfiq Bashir, finance inspectors, and the economic security unit of the project.
The meeting emphasized the need for coordination between the project’s administration and the irrigation departments to ensure the water needs for summer crops are met and to plan for the upcoming winter wheat planting. The Deputy Director urged the section managers to conduct an accurate survey of the summer crop areas and assess the extent of the damage caused by the rains.
Engineer Tawfiq Bashir provided an update on the possibility of accurately surveying the affected areas using satellite technology across the Managil sections. The meeting also called for an accurate count of the areas designated for wheat cultivation in the winter season based on farmer preferences.
The Gezira Project administration plans to cultivate 20,000 acres to produce wheat seeds in several Managil sections this season.
