Directives Issued to Close Kassala Market for Clean-Up Campaign

Kassala Executive Director Idris Mohammed Ali announced a complete closure of Kassala markets on Friday as part of an environmental clean-up campaign in cooperation with the Sudanese Armed Forces. The campaign aims to promote better civic behavior and environmental cleanliness.
The Executive Director urged all shop owners and business professionals to collect waste in designated bags and refrain from discarding waste in main and side streets to maintain the cleanliness of Kassala Market.
He warned that violators of the 2024 Local Order Law would face legal action and fines up to 500,000 Sudanese pounds. Fakheri Farkawi, head of the Environmental Protection Initiative in Kassala, confirmed that volunteers would distribute waste bags to merchants and raise awareness about maintaining cleanliness for the benefit of the market and its visitors.
The Environmental Protection Initiative seeks to address growing environmental challenges in Kassala by raising public awareness and developing effective waste management strategies to reduce pollution levels.
