Sudan Events – Follow-ups
Acting Minister of Foreign Affairs, Hussein Awad, emphasized the importance of the upcoming visit by the African Union Peace and Security Council to Port Sudan during the first week of October. The African Union had previously suspended Sudan’s membership amidst the ongoing crisis. Awad highlighted that the relationship between the African Union and the state it concerns should remain open. He added that since the African Union froze Sudan’s membership, it also bears the responsibility for security in the Horn of Africa and must take the initiative to reopen relations. Awad stressed that if the African Union wants to ease tensions in the region, it must lift Sudan’s suspension.
