Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi said during his talks on Thursday in Eritrea that he agreed on the importance of reaching a permanent ceasefire across Sudan as soon as possible, stressing the need to preserve its national institutions. He also emphasized the importance of providing all forms of support to Somalia to fulfill President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud’s vision of restoring security and stability in Somalia through its national army.
El-Sisi mentioned that they discussed practical proposals to provide this support bilaterally and jointly, in addition to supporting regional and international efforts to promote peacebuilding in Somalia.
This was part of his statement during a joint press conference with the presidents of Eritrea and Somalia during his visit to Eritrea.
El-Sisi added that their meeting on Thursday not only highlighted the strength and uniqueness of relations between the three countries but also reflected the growing importance of enhancing and developing these longstanding relations in the face of shared challenges, both in the Horn of Africa and the Red Sea, and in maximizing the potential of these countries to promote development and prosperity for their peoples.
