Sudan and Egypt: The Nile Basin Cooperation Framework Agreement violates international law

Sudan Events – Reports
Sudan and Egypt declared that the so-called Nile Basin Cooperation Framework Agreement is not binding for either of them, not only because they have not joined it, but also due to its violation of customary and contractual international law principles.
The Permanent Joint Technical Committee for Nile Waters between Sudan and Egypt, in a statement, said it held a meeting on October 11 and 12, during which the two sides discussed several issues related to Nile Basin waters under the 1959 Nile Waters Agreement.
The committee affirmed the countries’ ongoing efforts to repair the divide caused by some basin states adopting a non-consensual draft document that does not align with international law and best practices.
The statement reiterated Sudan and Egypt’s full commitment to cooperating with Nile Basin countries within internationally recognized principles, which benefit all without causing harm to any state.
