Investigation into a Major Fire at a Shopping Mall in East Cairo

Egyptian authorities launched an investigation on Sunday into a major fire that broke out at a shopping mall in the Fifth Settlement area (east of Cairo) on Saturday evening, resulting in the injury of seven people who were taken to hospitals for treatment. Initial investigations indicate that the fire was caused by an electrical short circuit inside one of the stores in a popular mall that houses several cafes. The fire spread rapidly, especially as workers in the mall were unable to control it and due to the presence of flammable materials in the cafes, which accelerated the spread of the flames.
