A delegation from Juba’s government discusses arrangements for South Sudan’s oil flow in Port Sudan

On Monday, Malik Agar, the Deputy Chairman of the Sovereign Council, met with a delegation from the Government of South Sudan, led by the Undersecretary of the Ministry of Petroleum, Dr. Chol Deng Thon.
The Minister of Energy and Petroleum, Dr. Mohi Eldin Al-Naim, stated in a press release that the meeting discussed the ongoing preparations to resume the flow of South Sudan’s crude oil after a halt that lasted over seven months. He explained that the halt negatively affected both the people of South Sudan and Sudan due to the destructive attacks by rebel militias. He mentioned that both parties agreed on the necessary preparations for the oil pipeline and that a workshop involving technicians from both countries would be organized to facilitate the resumption of South Sudan’s oil flow. He confirmed the strong ties between Sudan and South Sudan.
On his part, Dr. Chol Deng, the Undersecretary of the Ministry of Petroleum in South Sudan, explained that the delegation’s visit is part of the deep-rooted relations between the two countries. He said the delegation visited the sites used for exporting South Sudan’s oil and reviewed Sudan’s readiness to receive it. He noted that they were briefed on the arrangements made by the Ministry of Energy and Petroleum and Bashayer Company to start oil pumping. He added, “We have confirmed through the briefing that all facilities in Sudan are ready to receive South Sudan’s oil.” He also mentioned that the Deputy Chairman of the Sovereign Council has instructed continuous collaboration between the relevant authorities in both countries to achieve the goal of resuming the flow of South Sudan’s oil to export ports.
