On Thursday, the U.S. Treasury Department imposed sanctions on General Mirghani Idris Suleiman, head of the Defense Industries System.
Acting Under Secretary for Terrorism and Financial Intelligence, Bradley Smith, said: “This action highlights the central role played by key individuals like Mirghani Idris Suleiman in arms procurement, perpetuating violence, and prolonging the conflict in Sudan. The United States is committed to disrupting both sides’ ability to purchase weapons and secure external financing, which undermines the potential for a peaceful resolution.”
