Sudan rejects US sanctions on the Director of the Defense Industries System

Sudan Events – Reports
The Sudanese government condemned on Friday the United States’ imposition of sanctions on the Director General of the Defense Industries System, Merghani Idris. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs expressed in a statement its astonishment and rejection of the sanctions imposed by the US Treasury on the general manager of the Sudanese defense industries. It strongly denounced the US administration’s justification for the sanctions, stating that the armed forces sought to acquire weapons, arguing that it is illogical and unjust, as the task of national armies is primarily to defend their countries and peoples and to acquire all means of power that enable them to do so. The statement continued, “Without this, achieving security, peace, and stability at the national, regional, and international levels will not be possible.”
The Foreign Ministry’s statement observed that the US administration’s decision indicates that it still turns a blind eye to the sources of arms and mercenaries flowing to the terrorist militia to continue its war against the Sudanese people, despite the consistent testimonies documented in both international and American arenas, and in the face of calls from American legislators to take serious action against the sponsors of the militias responsible for perpetuating and escalating the war. It added that “instead of that, the administration seeks to strip the Sudanese armed forces of the capabilities that enable them to protect citizens against genocide, ethnic cleansing, and unprecedented atrocities from the militia.” It clarified that the US attempts to pretend neutrality between the armed forces and the militia will not absolve it of its moral and political responsibility for the ongoing massacres against civilians in Sudan at the hands of the terrorist militia, as currently occurring in East Al-Jazeera and Al-Batana.
