United Nations: Israel Seeks to Erase Indigenous Palestinian Population
United Nations expert Francesca Albanese accused Israel on Tuesday of seeking to “eradicate Palestinians” from their land through “genocide.”
Albanese, appointed by the Human Rights Council but speaking independently, stated, “It appears that the genocide of the Palestinian people serves a purpose: the complete expulsion or eradication of Palestinians from the land intrinsically tied to their identity, which Israel openly covets contrary to the law.”
When asked in Geneva, the Israeli embassy to the United Nations did not immediately respond to the latest allegations by Albanese, the Special Rapporteur on the situation of human rights in the Palestinian territories occupied since 1967.
Albanese claimed, “Genocide in Gaza is a foreseeable tragedy and could extend to other Palestinians under Israeli authority,” asserting that “the pursuit of Greater Israel risks erasing the indigenous Palestinian population.”
In her report, the Italian human rights expert added that “statements and actions by Israeli leaders reflect an intent for genocide and a path toward achieving it, frequently citing the biblical story of the Amalekites to justify the destruction of Gaza and the displacement of Palestinians through violence, making Palestinians, as a whole, legitimate targets.”
The retaliatory Israeli military campaign in Gaza following October 7 has resulted in the deaths of at least 43,020 Palestinians, most of whom are women and children, according to the latest data from the health ministry administered by Hamas, which the United Nations considers reliable.
