Suicide of Women Tortured and Raped by Militia Members in Al-Jazirah

Sudan Events – Follow-ups
The Network of Women in the Horn of Africa, “Sihha,” has reported that women in eastern Al-Jazirah who were subjected to torture and rape by members of the Rapid Support Forces militia have committed suicide. The network accused the militia of killing a thousand civilians in Al-Jazirah and Sennar within a week.
In a statement on Tuesday, “Sihha” said, “According to reports from the village of Al-Sireeh, women and girls were subjected to torture and gang rape by the Rapid Support Forces, leading many to suicide.”
The network also noted that women in other areas expressed readiness to take their own lives to avoid such abuses, as they anticipated the possible incursion of the militia into their regions.
