UN Official Condemns Violence in Al-Jazirah

Sudan Events – Follow-ups
The United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights, Volker Türk, expressed deep concern over escalating hostilities and violence in Al-Jazirah.
He stated that the Rapid Support Forces launched an attack on Al-Sireeh village, followed by two more attacks on Rufaa and Tambul, with reports of hundreds killed amid widespread looting.
According to reports, 25 sexual violence cases occurred in several villages in eastern Al-Jazirah, including cases involving three medical workers and an 11-year-old girl who died from the assault. Women and girls face abductions as well.
Türk noted reports of the militia detaining civilians from targeted villages, mistreating them, seizing internet devices and phones in nearly 30 villages, and burning crops.
Türk demanded an investigation into all alleged abuses and bringing those responsible to justice to end the cycle of horrific violence.
