Sudan Events – Follow-ups
Governor of Darfur Region, Minni Arko Minawi, condemned the Janjaweed militia’s crimes in northeastern Kutum against residents of the Buraydek area, describing them as a continuation of atrocities in Wad Al-Nawra and Sareeh.
In a Facebook post, Minawi wrote: “What is happening in Buraydek is another crime added to the record of human rights violations, no less horrific than the massacres in Al-Nawra or Sareeh.” He added that “the Buraydek residents are unarmed civilians subjected to brutal attacks by the militia with clear ethnic motives.”
Minawi highlighted that the militia had overrun the area, burning over 20 villages, looting properties, and noted that “Plan B has become apparent to everyone, as announced by Al-Daglo’s militia leader, transferring the war to Darfur, thereby reinforcing ethnic-based killing and looting.”
Minawi called for voices to be raised to bring this tragedy to the world’s attention, stating: “We will not allow this criminal behavior against innocent citizens.”
