Sudan Events – Follow-ups
Saudi Arabia and Qatar condemned on Saturday the rising violence against civilians in eastern Al-Jazirah. The Qatari Ministry of Foreign Affairs denounced “the brutal crimes targeting civilians in Al-Jazirah state, including children, women, and the elderly, which represent a blatant violation of international laws and humanitarian norms.”
The ministry emphasized the need for dialogue among Sudanese parties to end the armed conflict permanently and pave the way for comprehensive negotiations leading to a lasting peace agreement. It urged the international community to prioritize the Sudanese crisis and address its root causes. Qatar reaffirmed its stance in support of Sudan’s unity, independence, sovereignty, and territorial integrity and rejected interference in its internal affairs.
Similarly, the Saudi Ministry of Foreign Affairs condemned “the recent incidents in the eastern part of Al-Jazirah state, which led to civilian deaths and injuries,” stating that these acts violate international law and the principle of civilian protection. Saudi Arabia expressed concern over the ongoing conflict in Sudan and the rise in violence impacting civilians, calling for the need to fulfill the Jeddah Declaration. It urged warring parties to ceasefire, end the conflict, and facilitate aid access, reiterating its support for Sudan’s stability, unity of legitimate institutions, sovereignty, and independence. The ministry underscored that a political solution is “the only path to resolve the Sudan crisis.”
